Celebrating 29 ....(part deux)

Today marked the end of my (almost) weekly celebrations for my birthday (with a brief break yesterday to celebrate Francis' birthday and to attend a late Halloween party!).
So, what did I do today?

a) I woke up early (thank God for DST ending!) to go to church where I brought a cake (guess where I got the cake from...) which was enjoyed a lot by everyone (Leo, I can't believe you missed a second cake-eating chance!) later during coffee hour. Somehow, having the whole congregation singing "Happy Birthday" to you makes you feel very special!

b) I had my birthday dinner at Le Coin Grec, a Greek restaurant on Parc attended by the rest of my friends (the people who couldn't make it for part 1...). Overall, I found the food good and reasonably priced, although the service could have been a bit better. So, many thanks to Christina, Émile, Francis and Moti, Marius and his mother, Mina, and Nino and his girlfriend who came and truly honored me with their presence. Many thanks also to Andrea, Öner, Tobin and Josh who could not come for reasons beyond their control, but still kept me in their thoughts, something that really makes me a very happy and lucky person!!!

So, once again, thank you all for coming and may God keep you all safe and well.

Now, back to work.......

Celebrating 29.... (part 1)

It's official, I have just turned 29, so, no more 2_ (aka "twenty -----") for me.
But, no complaints there as long as wisdom comes with age....

So, how did I spend my birthday today? (I will also be celebrating my birthday on Sunday, since Tuesday was a bad day for most of my friends in the department, thus the "part 1" in the title)

Well:

a)I brought again these really yummy cakes from Afroditi, which people in the department (and I) really enjoy

b)I attended a very interesting talk on gender in bound pronouns presented by a fellow Greek linguist...

c)I spent the evening with some of my friends by having dinner at Fire grill, a very good, but a little bit expensive steak place on Stanley.

So, many thanks to Andonis, Nora, Panayiotis, Victor, Nevena, baby Dionisio, Leo and Philippe who came and wished me "Happy Birthday".

Special thanks to Nora, who like every year, made me a birthday cake which most of us enjoyed (unfortunately Leo and Philippe could not come, but (as promised) I will be saving a piece for you guys!) later on, when we went to her place.

Finally, many thanks also to my friend Dimitra who called me from Greece to wish me "Χρόνια Πολλά" [xróɲa polá] (lit. 'many years') , to Raph (you shouldn't have done this, but thank you so much!!!) and to all the people and friends from the department today who (both in person or electronically) wished me a Happy Birthday. (... you will also have a second chance to do so on Sunday :D )

So.... that's all for now (and Raph, I think I understand now why you do it; it's so cool when you celebrate your birthday for an extended period of time!!!!)

Love you all, and hope to see you (again) on Sunday!!!
